Daily Proverb: Sow Carefully: Why Your Words Shape the Harvest You Reap

The words of the godly are a life-giving fountain; the words of the wicked conceal violent intentions. Hatred stirs up quarrels, but love makes up for all offenses. Wise words come from the lips of people with understanding, but those lacking sense will be beaten with a rod. Proverbs 10:11–13 NLT

Talk about a “that escalated quickly” moment at the end of that verse: “those lacking sense will be beaten with a rod!” It sounds intense because it is intense. If you don’t understand the power of your words and the spiritual impact of what you speak and think, you may end up reaping a harvest in life that you don’t want, simply because you were careless with your words.

Too many of us spend our lives complaining about the harvest we receive without considering the seeds we are sowing. God’s laws are true, and the principle of sowing and reaping is a reality in a world that is more spiritual than we often acknowledge. Your words hold authority, and because of that, we must speak with intentionality and steward our speech carefully.

The question to ask yourself is: Do you want a life filled with quarrels, hatred, tension, self-deprecation, or negativity? No one in their right mind would say yes, but many people live as though they’ve accepted these things as their reality. Changing your thoughts, which will then change your speech, is the first step to seeing transformation in your life. The more you plant healthy seeds by aligning your mindset and words with biblical truths, the more you’ll discover your mind opening up to new possibilities and finding the resolve in your spirit to pursue them.

Start with the seed, and watch how the harvest begins to change!
